Officials from the Texas Department of Public Safety are looking into a collision that involved a school bus from Iraan-Sheffield ISD and a semi-truck. The accident happened on Friday, 10:45 p.m., on Interstate 20 in Howard County.

According to authorities, the semi-truck was heading east on the highway, tailing a passenger car, which suddenly slammed on the brakes, forcing the truck driver to veer right to avoid rear-ending the vehicle. However, the semi-truck driver lost control and crossed the median strip into the westbound lane, where it slammed onto a school bus.

One accident victim transported to Scenic Mountain Medical Center succumbed to injuries. She was later identified as Elizabeth Pope, 52, of Iraan Texas. She was reportedly a sponsor of Iraan-Sheffield’s cheering team. Two more victims remain confined and in critical condition at University Medical Center in Lubbock.
