A head-on collision between an 18-wheeler truck and an SUV left a teenager dead in Central Texas on early Christmas Eve.

According to Texas DPS Sgt. John Roberts, the victim was identified as 18-year-old Caleb Ryan Bonde, from Hot Springs, Arkansas. He was behind the wheel of Ford Excursion traveling on the southbound lane of U.S. Route 281. For reasons that have yet to be revealed, Bonde’s Ford SUV veered into the northbound lane of the highway, slamming head-on into a semi-truck. Bonde died at the scene of the accident.

The driver of the 18-wheeler-truck, identified as Edward John Treloar, 63, escaped without any injury. The accident remains under investigation.
