An Amarillo man and a teenager were killed and three others sustained serious injuries after a severe crash between a minivan and motorcycle on Loop 335 on Friday night. According to Amarillo Police Department Sgt. Brent Barbee, a 2005 Chrysler Town and Country was reported to have swerved in front of the motorcycle as the minivan’s driver was turning west onto St. Francis Avenue.

The collision killed 17-year-old Zabery Islina Pesqueda, who was sitting in the minivan’s right rear seat, as well as 32-year-old Nicholas David Wheeler, the driver of a Suzuki motorbike. The driver of the minivan and the rest of its passengers were immediately transported to a nearby hospital. The front passenger seat was occupied by a 9-year-old, while a 14-year-old was seated in the leaf rear seat.

While Amarillo Police Department officials report that the motorcycle rider was not wearing a helmet at the time of the accident, the victim’s younger doubts this was the case, saying that he always wore a helmet.
